  • I tried to capture the atmosphere of a busy evening on O'Connell Street in the centre of Dublin city in this painting. The street is designated as 'An Lar' (meaning 'the centre' in Irish) on buses as it is a hub for a lot of the transport passing through Dublin city centre. In the background is the GPO building - the General Post Office - which took centre-stage of the Insurrection of Easter 1916. Painted with acrylic on a large 40x30 inch canvas.

Sometimes my interest is piqued and I like to research some of my painting subjects, especially Dublin street scenes and pubs and bars and am often amazed at some of the snippets of curious information I come across. Follow this link to read one or two about O’Connell Street ….
