John Mitchell

His unique block and pixelated Lego technique developed out of his innate love of building and fun-based play.   His real creative influences came from his Grandmother who was seamstress and clothing designer and through his work in digital design where he learned the skills of user interface design.  Most of Mitchell’s work deals with super-rendering of contrast to create vibrant highly graphical portraits.  At its heart he likes to capture the essence of the facial expression and reduce it to the most elemental.  In each of his pieces the focus is always on the emotion of the face or the physical motion of the participant.  The playfulness and colour is secondary.  Mitchell cites Mondrian, as an influence where reductionism is a key theme in producing atomic design using and primary colours.   Mitchell participated in his first display at Doorway Gallery and is a new and self-taught artist exploring new techniques at all times.
