Amelie Desjardins
Amelie Desjardins is born and still lives most of the year in the beautiful Eastern Townships in Quebec. Her art is conceived in Quebec and Asia. Her astonishing works of art reproduce a world almost imaginary and vaporous; the images, originating from her travels in Japan, South East Asia, Oceania and Americas, often depict the passage of man at sea or secretive forests; both ends tied up to her world. When beholding at her work the words that comes to mind are: vastness, tranquility, air, eternity... The style could be best described as romantic with a touch of nostalgia; it is pushed forward with a unique technique that she invented.

In her earlier works Amélie Desjardins has used maritime structures and boats. She now integrates planks from boats, bridges and docks, in her canevas. The genuine works are made of teak, mahogany and other essence of exotic wood that are mostly recycled from retired pilars of the sea. It’s an inevitable process to integrate naturally aged elements says the artist, since, from her point of view, the ideal beauty resides in naturally carved elements. What is moulded by time and seemingly eternal, has truly mesmorized human soul for ages; thus it constitutes the vector and the soul of her art. In addition to numerous solo expositions, Amelie Desjardins is known in Quebec for her countless contributions to caritative organisms. She also often participates in Cirque du Soleil and other circus events.
